Abbstract :

The corrective measures for the interference problems and nonuniform potentials in cathodic protection (CP) of a complex installation, were discussed. The extent of CP current required may exceed the capacity of rectifiers, and may also increase interference on foreign pipelines. It was observed that the increase in CP current not only reduces the life of CP equipment, but also increases interference and stray current corrosion problems in neighboring installations. CP designs are often based on the electrical separation of protected pipelines from other lines and aboveground equipment.
